At some point during last night’s Bears By 7 postgame show, I asked Ryan Droste if the win over the Seahawks was the best of the Ben Johnson era.
Ryan basically responded with a “well, duh,” but then there was a pause and then I quickly ran through the candidates in my brain …
The win in Philadelphia on Black Friday was also on the road against a defending Super Bowl champ and served as the era’s official coming-out party. Johnson finished it with a shirtless rally in the locker room that’s on track to be among the most iconic moments in franchise history.
Last year’s regular season win over the Packers, ending with a bomb from Caleb Williams to DJ Moore, was the most cathartic for Bears fans of any age. It sparked off a citywide celebration and proved to be the difference for the Bears’ first division title since 2018.
The playoff win over the Packers was a comeback for the ages, ending a 15-year postseason victory drought and atoning for some of the bad memories associated with the 2011 NFC title game loss.
There are a few others, including steamrolling the Panthers in the season opener, Caleb besting Drake Maye last week and, what the hell, let’s even throw Colston Loveland’s level-up in a shootout win over Cincinnati in there.
But you look around at the smiles of Bears fans this morning and I think everything else is playing for second.
