Postgame Takeaways: Wins Like That Just Don't Happen For The Bears

How many backup quarterbacks have Chicago Bears fans wasted their Sundays on for the past four decades?

What’s more, how many of those men were led by coaches who couldn’t even cook up an adequate game plan for the first-string guys?

We knew these were different days for our Bears under Ben Johnson.

But perhaps never more so than last night, when Johnson shook three years of dust off Case Keenum to dominate an Eagles defense that’s still not that far from burying Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in a Super Bowl.

I apologized on the postgame podcast for doubting that Keenum could get it done and the line behind me should be a long one. Every ESPN expert picked the Eagles, save for a contrarian Bears pick by Scott Van Pelt as they hurried to commercial. The Bears were up to 4.5 point dogs at home.

None of it mattered to Keenum and Johnson, who borrowed from another Philly team and trusted the process all week long.

The result was a memorable 27-7 victory that made this a happy morning in Chicago and reset expectations just eight days after Caleb’s hamstring injury gave us our normal feelings of existential dread.
