Logan Jones came to Iowa as a defensive lineman. He took a redshirt in 2020 and the missed most of the 2021 season due to injury. When the 2022 season rolled around, the Hawkeyes needed a center to replace the departing Tyler Lindenbaum (now the NFL’s highest paid center). Jones accepted the position change and then some. By his senior year, Jones was the best center in college football with 50 starts under his belt.
Jones played 704 snaps in his senior season and allowed exactly one sack. He finished with a 90.2 PFF pass block grade, first among all 307 qualifying FBS centers. Over four years he allowed five total sacks. LIke the Bears, Iowa runs a zone scheme that benefited from Jones’ get-off, leverage and athleticism. Jones also hold the program’s 700-pound squat record … no small feat at a program known for its strength.
What To Expect From Jones in 2026
Drew Dalman’s surprise retirement just before free agency and the draft created a real pickle for Ben Johnson and the Bears. Ryan Poles responded by quickly signing Patriots center Garrett Bradbury to a deal, but Jones being available at pick No 57 was too good to pass up for a coach who loves his strong centers.
The expectation is that Bradbury vs. Jones will rank as one of the more interesting position battles in camp. And it might well happen. Jones is not green by any means. He’ll turn 25 in October and has four years of experience under his belt.
Bradbury only signed a one-year deal worth $3.7 million, so there would be nothing keeping the Bears’ center of the future from playing time if he shines in training camp. At the same time, Bradbury is coming off a Super Bowl season in front of Drake Maye. The Bears coaching staff has the luxury of giving Jones some time to watch and learn if they so choose.
